Une ascension de deux heures et demie à trois heures et demie débutant dans l'obscurité, et une descente d'environ 3 750 marches en pierre irrégulières. Un dromadaire peut vous transporter sur la majeure partie du sentier, mais pas sur le dernier tronçon.

Une excursion nocturne construite autour d'un moment fort : le lever du soleil depuis le sommet du mont Sinaï, à 2 285 mètres d'altitude. L'ascension guidée débute vers 2h du matin et dure environ deux heures et demi à pied (un chameau est disponible sur la majeure partie du trajet, moyennant un supplément) ; après le lever du soleil et la descente, l'excursion se poursuit vers le monastère Sainte-Catherine du VIe siècle, site classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO et construit sur le site traditionnel du Buisson ardent.
