Una verdadera expedición en lugar de una excursión de un día: el oasis de Dajla, situado a unos 740 km al suroeste de El Cairo, alberga la ciudad medieval de adobe de Al-Qasr, el templo de Deir el-Hagar y manantiales de aguas termales entre sus palmerales; el oasis de Jarga, en la ruta de regreso, añade la necrópolis de Al-Bagawat, uno de los cementerios cristianos más antiguos y mejor conservados del mundo. La mejor época para viajar es de octubre a marzo, cuando las temperaturas diurnas en el desierto se mantienen agradables.
