The Standard Route

A typical cruise begins in Luxor with Karnak and Luxor Temple, sails south with a stop at Edfu's Temple of Horus, continues to Kom Ombo's double temple, and ends in Aswan with time for Philae Temple and, often, an optional add-on day to Abu Simbel. Each stop is a scheduled shore excursion — the ship sails, mostly overnight or during less scenic stretches, while touring happens on land during the day.

4 Nights vs. a Longer Sailing

A 4-night cruise covers the full core route — Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Aswan — at a comfortable but efficient pace, and suits travelers with a week or less total in Egypt. A longer sailing, a week or more, adds more time at anchor in Luxor and Aswan themselves, room for the West Bank's full tomb circuit without rushing, and sometimes an extra stop or two along quieter stretches of river — better suited to travelers who'd rather slow down than see more sites in the same number of days.

What a Typical Day Looks Like

Mornings usually start early with a shore excursion before the heat builds, followed by lunch back on board while the ship is underway, an afternoon either at another site or resting on deck, and dinner on the ship in the evening — often with some form of entertainment. It's a genuinely different pace from a land-based itinerary, with far less packing and unpacking and far more time actually on the water.
