A full day on Egypt's Mediterranean coast, roughly a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Cairo — the Citadel of Qaitbay, built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse, the modern Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Pompey's Pillar, and the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, Alexandria's largest Roman-era cemetery.
