The practical truth about this one — timings, conditions, and what we can’t promise.
- Late afternoon is the best of it — cooler, better light, and it puts you on the river for sunset.
- This is people's home, not an attraction. Modest dress, and ask before photographing anyone.
- Some houses keep young crocodiles in tanks. If you'd rather not, say so and we'll route around it.
- Bring small notes if you want to buy from the craft stalls — cards aren't taken.

Four seated colossi of Ramesses II, twenty metres high, cut into a cliff at the far southern edge of Egypt — then sawn into a thousand blocks in the 1960s and rebuilt sixty metres higher to keep Lake Nasser off them.
