What to Wear for a Pyramids Photoshoot
Colours that work against sand and stone, what the heat and wind do to an outfit, and how modesty at the site fits with the photographs you want.
Giza is sand, limestone and sky — a background of beige, beige and blue. Almost everything about dressing for a shoot there follows from that one fact.
Colours that work
- Strong solid colours. Red, deep blue, emerald, white, black — anything that separates you from the ground.
- Flowing fabric. Movement is what stops a desert photograph looking like a passport picture, and there is almost always wind.
- One statement, not three. The site is already doing a lot.
Colours that disappear
Beige, sand, camel, pale khaki, light grey. They are the natural instinct for a desert and they are exactly the ones that merge you into the background. Busy small prints do the same thing at distance — they read as noise rather than pattern.
Hold the outfit up against a photograph of the Pyramids before you pack it. If it blends, pick again.
What the site does to an outfit
It is hot, open and dusty, with almost no shade. Long, light fabric is more comfortable than short and tight, and photographs better. Sand gets into hems. Heels are a mistake — the ground is uneven and sandy, and you will be walking between spots. Bring the shoes you can move in and change for the frames that need them.
Modesty and comfort
Giza is a tourist site and dress is relaxed by Egyptian standards, but covered shoulders and knees draw less attention and make for an easier morning. This is practical advice rather than a rule, and it happens to align with what photographs well — longer, looser, more fabric to move.
Outfit changes
If you want more than one look, say so when you book so the session is planned with the time in it. There is nowhere convenient to change at the site, so it is worth being realistic about how many changes are actually practical.
Flying dress sessions are different
For the Sand Dunes and Fayoum flying dress shoots the dress is provided in the colour you choose, so the question becomes what to wear underneath and what to bring — which our flying dress what-to-wear guide covers separately.

Yes, but mention it when you book so the time is planned in. There is nowhere convenient to change at the site, so be realistic about the number.

Yes — the flying dress sessions include the dress in your chosen colour.
Pick the colour that fights the sand, and fabric that moves in wind you cannot control. Everything else is detail.
