A Fayoum Photoshoot: Wadi El Rayan and the Magic Lake
What a Fayoum flying dress session involves, how it differs from shooting at Giza, what is included at $219, and who it actually suits.
Fayoum is the answer to a specific complaint about Giza: that everyone has that photograph. Wadi El Rayan and the Magic Lake give you desert, water and dunes with almost nobody in the frame — and a landscape most people do not associate with Egypt at all.
What the session is
The Fayoum Flying Dress Photoshoot is $219, runs an hour, and takes place at Wadi El Rayan and the Magic Lake. It includes the flying dress in your chosen colour, a professional photographer with posing direction, private transportation with pickup and return from Cairo, Wadi El Rayan and Magic Lake access, edited images, and an Egyptian souvenir.
Worth noting, because it differs from the Pyramids sessions: site access is included here. At Giza you buy entrance tickets at the gate.
Fayoum or the sand dunes?
The Sand Dunes Flying Dress Photoshoot is $199 and shoots in the dunes near Giza — closer, shorter as a day, and pure desert. Fayoum is $219 and further out, but gives you water against sand, which is the thing you cannot get near the Pyramids.
- Choose the dunes if you are short on time or combining it with a Cairo itinerary.
- Choose Fayoum if you want a landscape nobody will recognise as Egypt, and have a day to give it.
Fayoum is a drive. The hour of shooting sits inside most of a day once travel is counted — which is the real difference from a Giza session, more than the $20.
Who it suits
People on a second trip to Egypt, people who already have their Pyramids photographs, and anyone whose priority is a landscape rather than a monument. It also suits travelers who dislike crowds: Wadi El Rayan is quiet in a way Giza never is.
The dress
Provided, in the colour you choose. High-end retouching is available as an upgrade. What you bring is what goes underneath and shoes you can walk in on sand — our flying dress what-to-wear guide covers the detail.
