Kayaking in Fayoum Oasis
Flat, sheltered desert water with dunes running straight down into it. An hour or two of paddling on the Magic Lake or Lake Qarun — the quietest way to see the Fayoum lakes, and the easiest thing in the world to add to a safari day.
What You’ll Do

Transfer to the lakeshore
Down to the water — the Magic Lake inside Wadi El Rayan, or Lake Qarun below Tunis Village.

Briefing and fitting
Kayak, paddle and life jacket, and a short session on the bank before you get in.
- 3
Out on the water
Paddling the shoreline with a guide, along dunes that come right down to the waterline and past the birdlife the lakes draw in.
- 4
Beach stop
Pull in on the sand for a swim, or a sandboard down the dune above the lake if you've got the legs left for the climb.

Good to Know
The practical truth about this one — timings, conditions, and what we can’t promise.
- Flat, sheltered water — no experience needed, and the guide stays with you.
- Mornings are calmer; the wind usually gets up across the lakes in the afternoon.
- It pairs naturally with the 4×4 safari on the same day — paddle in the morning, dunes after lunch.
- October to April is the comfortable season.
- Bring something you can swim in and a change of clothes.
