Dolphin House Trip in Marsa Alam

New experienceSataya Reef (Dolphin House), off Hamata

Sataya Reef, two and a half hours out of Hamata, is a resting lagoon for a resident pod of spinner dolphins — commonly counted at sixty to eighty animals. You snorkel the reef, you eat lunch at anchor, and if the pod is resting shallow, you get into the water quietly and let them decide.

What You’ll Do

  1. 1

    Early pickup from your hotel

Around 5:00am, for the drive south along the coast to Hamata port.

  2. 2

    Board around 7:30am

Onto the boat at Hamata and out through the reef channel.

  3. 3

Two and a half hours to Sataya

The crossing out to Shaab Sataya — open water, and the reason this is a full day.

  4. 4

    The lagoon

Snorkelling over the reef inside the horseshoe, and time in the water where the pod rests. Your guide decides when and where you get in.

  5. 5

    Lunch at anchor

Cooked on board and served in the lagoon.

  6. 6

    Second reef stop, then home

A second stop on the way back, then the crossing to Hamata and the transfer to your hotel.

Good to Know

The practical truth about this one — timings, conditions, and what we can’t promise.

  • The pod is resident and operators put the chance of seeing them at roughly 90%. Seeing them is likely. Swimming near them is not guaranteed, and nobody honest will promise it.
  • These are wild animals resting during the day. You enter the water quietly, you never chase, touch or feed them, and the guide decides when the group gets in — that's the rule that keeps the pod coming back.
  • Pickup is around 5:00am and the crossing is two to two and a half hours each way.
  • The open water can be choppy. Take something for seasickness before you board if you're prone to it.
  • Reef-safe sunscreen, and a rash vest beats reapplying sunscreen all day.
